  • Discuss the guidelines-based approach in choosing oral glucose-lowering medications in the management of diabetes

  • Understand the screening and diagnostic approach for diabetic polyneuropathy and autonomic neuropathy
  • Describe the preventive and management strategies for diabetic polyneuropathy and autonomic neuropathy
  • Recognise less common types of diabetic neuropathy

  • Provide a brief overview of diabetic kidney disease
  • Discuss the global prevalence of diabetic kidney disease
  • Identify the potential risk factors associated with the development of diabetic kidney disease

  • Review the screening and diagnostic tests for detecting diabetic kidney disease
  • Discuss the guideline recommendations in the management of diabetic kidney disease

  • Describe the epidemiological trend of gestational diabetes mellitus
  • Discuss screening methods for gestational diabetes mellitus
  • Describe the clinical manifestation and recommendations for standard of care in gestational diabetes mellitus
  • Describe the management of gestational diabetes mellitus

At the end of this module the learner will be able to:

  • Discuss the global prevalence of women with preexisting type 1 and 2 diabetes
  • Describe the maternal and foetal complications related to preexisting diabetes
  • List the steps involved in preconception care and counselling
  • Discuss the management of type 1 and 2 diabetes during pregnancy
  • Discuss the management strategies of peri- and post-partum care
