About the Author and Conflicts of Interest

Dr Pedro Matos

Dr Pedro Matos holds a Medical degree from Lisbon University graduating in 1978. He specialised in Cardiology in 1988 and has been a Fellow of the Portuguese Society of cardiology since 1989. He has trained in many countries learning about aerospace medicine and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). He worked as a Cardiologist from 1988 becoming the head of the Cardiology department in 2000. Alongside these commitments, Dr Matos works as part of a group of cardiologists and surgeons at Hospital CUF. Additionally he coordinates the MRI/Cardiac CT department at CUF.

Aside from these roles, Dr Matos has worked as part of the Portuguese Aero Medical Board (1989-1996) and as part of the Board of Directors in the Portuguese Diabetes Association (APDP 2002-2005) and is currently an assessor to the Clinical Director of the APDP. He is also the editor of the official magazine from the APDP titles “VIVER EM EQUILIBRIO” (1997-present). He has worked on many clinical trials in the field of diabetes and has given oral presentations and published several scientific papers in the area of iabetes and cardiovascular disease.
